We had such a magical night last night at Disneyland. Scott and I surprised the boys yesterday afternoon and told them we were all going to Disneyland for Mickey's Trick or Treat Night. They were so excited and raced to get in their costumes.
I think Scott and I were just as excited as them, and we had been like that for 2 days (ever since we bought the tickets)! We ate dinner at home as fast as we could and jumped in the car. Of course, it didn't take the usually 25 minutes because it was right at rush hour, so it took us more like 45 minutes, but we were too excited to complain.
Our first ride was going to be Autotopia, but it was closed down temporarily. We noticed a lot of people getting in line and soon found out it was for one of the trick or treat stations. We jumped in line and waited for whatever it was inside! Hindsight, we would have skipped this, because it was just people handing out candy and we could have rode more rides had we not waited. Oh well, live and learn.
After getting our candy, which I think Keegan ate all of before we made it to our next ride, we starting towards the Materhorn. As we approached it on Main Street, the parade was about to start, so we parked ourselves on the sidewalk and watched the awesome parade. Seriously, no one does it like Disney. They are able to make anything magical. Even Halloween. Every kid should have a chance in their life to go to Disneyland.
After the parade we jumped on the Materhorn ride. I haven't laughed and giggled that much in a while. So much fun! From there, we noticed the Autotopia was running again, so we headed over to it. It's so fun seeing the boys be so excited for something and having a blast together as a family.
We caught the Disneyland train to another station after Autotopia, saw some fireworks, and headed into Pirates of the Caribbean. Our last ride was the absolute best though for two reasons. First of all, the boys had never been on it. Why hadn't they ever been on it? Because two years ago they were both too short for it. It was Indiana Jones and you have to be 46" to ride it. Keegan was easily tall enough, but Tanner was exactly 46" when we measured at home. As we approached the ride, the Disney employee asked him to step out of line to measure him. We were all a little nervous for him. Tanner stood up tall and the lady surveyed the top of his head with the measuring stick ~ HE PASSED! YES! We headed inside with high fives and jumps for joy. What a big day for Tanner.
As the line winded through the place to approach the ride, Tanner was again pulled out of line and asked to be measured. Ok, so he passed the first one, but will this person see it differently and crush his spirit? No way, he passed again! Woohoo! Now it was official. He was able to ride so many more rides because he had reached the 46" mark. We were almost ready to jump in to our "jeep" for the ride, when ANOTHER person asked to measure him! Seriously. Can't you leave the kid alone? But I think that was just my motherly instincts not wanting his heart to be broken so close to jumping on the ride, if they happened to think he wasn't tall enough. But sure enough, he WAS tall enough! And off we went on Indiana Jones. That is a fun ride!
After Indiana Jones, we headed back to catch the tram to our car. Scott was starving, so we stopped for a hotdog. His french fries looked so good, I had to get my own. We boarded the tram with a platter of french fries we were all devouring and left Disneyland with a smile on our faces.
Tanner could barely keep his eyes open on the tram ride, mind you it was close to 11:15pm by this point. Scott carried him to the car and he fell asleep on his shoulder. Keegan was asleep before we left the parking structure. Scott and I were both tired, but so happy with the another fun memory for our family. As we always say, we love spending our money on experiences, not just things. Definitely a nap in store for today!
